I love watching movies…although at times, they can be hazardous to my well being.
Sometimes, when I’m feeling reeeeaaalllyy introspective, I start to believe that the movie I’m watching is speaking to me and only me.
For example, let’s look at the following line from Dirty Harry:
Do you feel lucky? Well, do you, punk?
That line was a hidden message to me from God or the Flying Spaghetti Monster telling me to take risks in my life at all costs.
That’s right, some deity used Clint Eastwood to send a secret message to me a few years before I was even conceived.
Hey! You know what? I should take his glorious message to heart and do risky things! Maybe I should go to a casino and bet all my savings…or maybe I should try my hand at blindfolded archery. Dirty Harry was speaking to me. This is a siiiiigggnnn!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’m a bit crazy. However, there are times when you should listen to what certain films try to tell you. Take Donnie Darko or Inception—they’re telling you to wake up and realize there’s more to reality than what you think.
Movies are a great tool for self-reflection. They’re fun, captivating, and (sometimes) cathartic. Pay close attention next time you watch a movie-you may be surprised at what you discover about yourself.
